The daily life of the Desktop Level 2 / VMware Systems Administrator will consist of advanced Desktop troubleshooting and Windows/VMware Systems Administration.
The Leve 2 Systems Admin support work will be with a variety of small business and organization IT environments. You’ll gain a deep knowledge of small enterprise IT, everything from advanced desktop and Windows Systems Administration, how to perform a P2V migration, networking to systems, and on up to security and cloud. Our clients are utilizing these technologies and you will be right in the thick of things. Whether troubleshooting missing email or verifying the feasibility of a disaster recovery plan, you will learn and see and touch the things that matter for your own and our client’s growth.
What should you be bringing to the table? Besides a smile and true grit, you’ll need:
- 1+ years of Microsoft Server Support. We think Linux is cool too, but most of our clients are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2012R2. And don’t forget about Exchange and Office 365 experience.
- 1+ years of Hyper-V OR Citrix OR VMware experience – Experience with setting up physical to virtual environments or utilizing VSphere are the first items you’ll learn on the job.
- 1 to 3 years of Windows Desktop Support. Mac experience is also helpful, as is mobile device support. To be relevant, this needs to be commercial level IT Support of a business environment. This won’t be your primary responsibility, but you should know your way around for the occasional escalation ticket.
- 1+ years of Cisco/SonicWALL experience. You don’t need to be a routing expert, but you should understand the difference between WEP and WPA. Terms like VPN and LAN should be a part of your vocabulary.
